Description

Participants will critically examine leadership theories in the research literature in order to justify their own approaches to leadership practice including the key features of Maori and Pasifika leadership practice. The course includes strategies for identifying learning needs as a leader and how to help others see potential for engaging in leadership work.

Learning Outcomes

  • On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Articulate the qualities/ characteristics of leaders of learning including the key features of Maori and Pasifika leadership practice;
  • Identify personal strengths and set goals for further development as a leader;
  • use and justify a selected theoretical framework from a nominated journal article to critique the leadership practice of a particular case;
  • Develop strategies with course members for supporting and growing the leadership capacity of other staff.

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Self assessment of leadership learning needs 09 Apr 2018 45% Complete and analyse a leadership learning self-assessment inventory to identify current leadership strengths and future leadership learning needs and how needs could be addressed. Learning outcomes 1, 2.
Case study critique 04 Jun 2018 45% Source and critically review a case study of an existing leader from the literature to identify the challenges faced by that leader and the factors influencing the leadership actions taken. Judgements of the effectiveness of those leadership actions should conclude the assessed task. Learning outcome 3.
Online forum participation 10% Online forum participation based on leadership capacity building strategies. Learning outcome 4.
