This course will help participants to structure a blended learning environment that delivers content successfully, fosters online collaboration and supports the learner. The course will provide participants with an opportunity to carry out an independent project in education or training, and to enhance both their professional practice and the theoretical understandings by undertaking research which investigates blended practices. Designed for educators in all phases of education and training, including early childhood and industry related training.
E-learning technologies carry the potential to transform teaching and learning through the use of digital tools and the blending of online and virtual environments into our educational practice. Technology rich environments and new means of providing education, such a COOL (Community of Online Learning), can enable us to “lead with pedagogy, accelerate with technology” (MoE, 2015) as we teach lifelong learners in a connected world. This course aims to inspire participants, enhance their capability to implement e-learning in their practice, and support them in understanding the affordances and capabilities of digital technologies within their chosen educational context. Participants will develop their digital skills as well as evaluate related research, including culturally responsive practices, enabling them to develop effective future focussed teaching practices and support students in the development of skills for the future.
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with a broad range of digital tools and analyse and evaluate how their use can support and extend student learning;demonstrate an understanding of the design elements in an e-learning environment;select and evaluate research in the field of e-learning to identify pedagogical, cultural and social aspects;synthesise and apply current research on future focused learning;apply selected theories to increase effective practice in e-learning; critically evaluate pedagogical, cultural, and social issues and identify their impact.

Course participants are expected to participate actively in the online learning environment. Course participants will be required to plan, implement and evaluate a mini research project for a centre, school or other education or training context.
