Description

An understanding of the nature of sound is fundamental to the field of Audiology. This course includes an overview of the basic principles underlying the nature, analysis and perception of sound and speech. Psychoacoustic principles, theories of hearing and their relationship to normal hearing, and fundamental principles of speech acoustics are presented. Through readings, demonstrations, exercises, projects and lectures, students will develop a foundation of the concepts that underlie acoustics and psychoacoustics, and will apply these concepts to practical problems in audiology. Theoretical knowledge will be complemented with hands-on lab exercises.
