Description

This course surveys the key features of Roman law that have become essential to modern European legal systems and considers the impact of law on Rome's development as a city-state and capital of a large empire.

Prerequisites

Either 15 points of CLAS at 200 level with a B pass; or 30 points of CLAS at 200 level; or any 45 points at 200 level from the Arts Schedule

Assignment 1 15% A summary and critique of article/chapter.
Assignment 2 30% A hands-on assignment on primary sources.
Quiz 20% Four quizzes based on lecture materials (5% each).
Case Study 35% Take-home based on extended primary material or a case-study.
