A survey of the career of Alexander the Great (336 to 323 BC) with special attention to problems of source interpretation.
The course looks at the career and policies of one of history’s most fascinating rulers, Alexander the Great, who in a sweeping military adventure of epic scope put together an empire extending from the Adriatic to the Indus River. The course, however, tries to focus less on the “adventure story” and more on the cold reality with a particular focus on the surviving primary sources.
By the end of the course students will be familiar both with Alexander's achievements and with the primary sources on which our modern depictions of Alexander are based.
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:

Any 15 points at 100 level from CLAS, orany 60 points at 100 level from the Schedule V of the BA.
