Cell Biology
Description
A critical examination of recent advances in cell biology with emphasis on cell signalling, the cytoskeleton, cell junctions and protein targeting/translocation/trafficking. The focus ranges from fundamental cellular and molecular biology to consideration of cellular mechanisms within the context of physiological or pathological processes.
The aim of this course is to critically examine recent advances in cell biology, with emphasis on the cytoskeleton and cell signalling. The focus will range from fundamental cellular and molecular biology to consideration of cellular mechanisms within the context of a physiological process, to consideration of the cellular and molecular defects underlying certain human diseases (e.g. hypertension). During the course students are encouraged and provided with advice and feedback to enable them to develop skills in written and oral communication, and in the efficient acquisition of scientific information. The course will involve group discussion, presentation of scientific papers, and preparation and critique of a review article.
