Degree plans for BCom majors

Degree plans show the typical degree structure for the BCom majors and satisfy all points, course and level requirements. Courses are organised by year to ensure you meet 200 and 300-level course prerequisites. When a course is offered in both semesters you can choose which semester you want to complete it in. To maintain a balanced workload, it is desirable to complete four courses each semester.

NOTE:

1. ACCT 152 is a 15-point courses and LAWS 101 is a 30-point course.

2. For a major in Accounting, select 60 points from prescribed ACCT 300-level courses. The courses shown are required for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). For memebership to professional accounring bodies your BCom must included specific courses. Talk to a student advisor to make sure you are taking the required courses.

3. Students who commenced their BCom degree prior to 2014 are required to include FINC 203 to meet CA ANZ's requirements. There are different requirements for admission to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and/or qualifying as an Accounting Technician.

Degree structure for Business Economics major

NOTE:

1. Recommended FINC 101.

2. This degree plan includes 30 points of courses from the prescribed list for another BCom minor (excluding Economics) at 200-level.
If Finance is chosen as the other commerce subject, then only 30 points are required as FINC 201 counts as one of the three courses, however the student must take FINC 203 and 15 points from FINC 301, FINC 311 or FINC 312.

3. 300-level courses:

  • a) Students intending to complete the BCom majoring in Business Economics must be credited with at least 60 points of 300-level ECON including ECON 310. 300-level courses used to meet this requirement cannot also be used to meet the 300-level requirement for an Economics major in the Bachelor of Commerce.
  • b) This degree plan includes 15 points of courses from the prescribed list for another BCom minor (excluding Economics) at 300-level.

Degree structure for Economics major

NOTE:

1. FINC 101 is recommended.

2. For entry to Honours and post-graduate study, students should take MATH 102, ECON 213, ECON 321, ECON 324 and ECON 326.

Degree structure for Finance major

NOTE:

1. MATH199 is a 30-point STAR course equivalent to (MATH102 and MATH103).

NOTE:

1. COSC122 can be taken instead of INFO125, required for entry to 200-level INFO.

2. COSC362 can be taken in place of one 15-point 300-level INFO course.

Degree structure for International Business major - Finance pathway with international exchange

NOTE:

1. Select 30 points in a single subject from Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish.

2. To be eligible to go on an international exchange you require a GPA of 5.0 or more in International Business major courses. FINC203 must be completed on exchange for entry to FINC300 in third year.

NOTE:

2. To be eligible to go on an international exchange you require a GPA of 5.0 or more in International Business major courses. MKTG204 can be completed in summer school (SU1) if the chosen exchange partner does not offer an equivalent course.

NOTE:

1. Select 30 points in a single subject from ChineseFrenchGermanJapaneseRussian or Spanish.

2. Entry to MKTG305 requires MKTG201MKTG202MKTG204

MGMT222 is no longer required for the International Business Major. From 2013 a 200-level commerce elective can be taken instead.
