Help and Support for Students

You are not alone! To assist students to adjust to and cope with the challenges of being a student, a wide range of support is available to students on Campus. Some of these services and support can be through Student Services, Disabilities Support, the Health Centre, UCSA, Accommodation and course teachers.

Student Services

To make sure that all of our students are well cared for at all times, we have a wide range of support services including:

  • A team of experienced student advisors who provide caring and friendly support to all students on campus
  • Access to the Learning Skills Centre
  • A Mentoring Programme that gives students the opportunity to meet other new students, make new friends, and build their networks on campus. The programme also provides the opportunity to receive advice and guidance from a senior student
In addition, the University has other services available for our students and you can find out more about these by clicking on the links below:

Orientation

Beginning a new programme of study can be challenging and sometimes intimidating. In the week before the start of classes an orientation day is held that will introduce students to the CUP Programme at the University of Canterbury. We provide advice and information, introduce key personnel and answer some of the many questions students may have. Orientation is beneficial and we strongly advise all students to attend as it is also a chance to get to know the other students.

Learning Skills Centre

Students studying the Certificate in University Preparation have access to workshops and seminars offered by the Learning Skills Centre. These may provide a worthwhile supplement to the skills taught in CUP courses. Please note that one-to-one consultations also offered by the Learning Skills Centre are not available to students of Bridging Programmes.
