Jean Marie Carey (Otago University, New Zealand)

Jean Marie Carey has studied in Miami and Munich and has a B.A. and and M.A. in art history and a MIS (master of information sciences/digital archives and humanities). She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Otago. Carey studies the formation of empathy for animals through the study of their images, basing this research in German philosophy and psychology, primarily focusing on the work of Expressionist painter and writer Franz Marc and how Marc's ideas manifest and return in the contemporary art world.
