Study Abroad and Exchange Programme Students
For those students coming only for one semester, it can difficult to find accommodation as most rental properties around the university area come unfurnished and have 52 week leases and the halls of residence give preference to full year applicants.
Therefore, in conjunction with Campus Living Villages (NZ) Ltd, UC has developed a special accommodation package specifically designed for students on approved study abroad or exchange programmes.
This package offers excellent value and is the most hassle-free option for most students, however acceptance of the arrangement is not mandatory.
Students who do not wish to take this package offer may apply for homestay accommodation or try private renting ('flatting'). Students on full academic year programmes (February - November) may also choose to apply for a place in another hall of residence.

Accommodation Package
A special on-campus accommodation package for Study Abroad and Exchange students has been developed in conjunction with Ilam Apartments. This university owned complex of modern 3, 4, 5 or 6 bedroom apartments (Manuka, Kowhai and Hinau) is managed by Campus Living Villages NZ Limited (CLV), an Australian-based company which also manages university accommodation at a number of universities in Australia, USA, England and New Zealand.
These self-catered apartments offer independent living with the bonus of living on-campus in a secure and supportive study environment and are ideal for individual students over 18 years of age. Residents have their own fully-furnished bedroom with internet access and each apartment has a kitchen equipped with basic essentials for students to make their own meals. Residents also have the option of purchasing either a full meal plan or casual meals at the University Hall dining room, located only a few minutes walk away.
This package is open to all students coming on university-approved Study Abroad or Exchange programmes, as verified by the University of Canterbury International Office.
The package includes the following:
- Administration Fee
- Accommodation Fees
- Utilities charges, including water and electricity
- Linen and Bedding Pack

- A two hour room clean at the end of stay

- Opportunity to make up for any ‘unused time’ in the student’s contract at another CLV Village in Australia (subject to availability and dates) - (refer to information on Swap below)
