Application Tips
Make sure your application is completed and returned before 1 October to ensure that your application is considered within the first round of offers.
If applicable, make sure you give your “Common Confidential Reference Form” to your referee early. They will need enough time to complete the form and send it to the Accommodation Office before the due date.
You can apply for the halls of residence even if you do not know whether you have gained admission to the University.
Most communication and offers of places are made by email so please ensure that you have an appropriate email address that you are able to check daily, even if you are away on holiday, and which is able to receive large attachments. If you use a spam filter of some kind, please check this regularly as emails can often end up there.
Be aware that just making an application does not guarantee you a place in one of our halls of residence. Some of the halls receive more applications than they have places available and undergo a selection process where they look carefully at each applicant and their reference. For Bishop Julius Hall, College House and Rochester and Rutherford Hall applicants, t is important to make sure you complete your application as fully as possible listing any community and sporting interests and leadership responsibilities. The halls are looking to select a variety of students from various backgrounds and abilities so they can establish a well-rounded student community within the hall. If you are unsure which hall would be best for you, contact the Accommodation Office for advice.
If a member of your family has had some connection with the hall you are applying to, make sure you note this on your application form. If you have had a tour of the hall, note this on your application form also.
Once submitted, you can check the status of your application at any time. This is especially important leading up to the 1 October due date as you are able to check that your reference form has been received and that your application is complete.
If you are offered a place by a hall of residence, make sure you pay the deposit and return the acceptance documents by the due date indicated in the offer letter. If you don't, the offer expires and your place will be offered to another student. If you have concerns about meeting this deadline, contact the hall for advice.
