Information for Couples or Students with Families
Couples
Sonoda Christchurch Campus has a small number of self-contained one bedroom flats suitable for couples only.
Please note that these units are in high demand. To check on availability, please email enquiries@ucastudentvillage.co.nz
Otherwise, students will need to find private rental accommodation.
Students with Families
We currently have a small number of student apartments that have been made available for families at the Ilam Apartments on-campus. These are located in the Manuka area of Ilam Apartments with an option of:
- 3 bedroom apartment (maximum 4 people)
- 4 bedroom apartment (maximum 5 people)
- 5 bedroom apartment (maximum 6 people) and
- 6 bedroom apartment (maximum 7 people).
These apartments have a minimum stay period of 2 weeks but can be booked for the semester or the academic year.
University Hall also has a limited number of apartments available for families.
Please Note: The availability of family accommodation on-campus for 2012 will be confirmed later in the year. In the interim, a waitlist booking form can be requested by emailing accommodation@canterbury.ac.nz
If family accommodation on campus is not available, you will need to find private rental accommodation after you arrive in Christchurch.
As it is not advisable to sign a rental agreement before viewing the rental property in person, so you will need to arrange some temporary accommodation (eg, backpackers or motel) for when you first arrive in Christchurch. It is recommended that you confirm you are able to and can afford to stay for up to two weeks as although you may not need the whole two weeks, you should not feel rushed into signing into a property agreement.
Temporary accommodation may be available at one of UC Accommodation's self-catered apartments for families to stay while they look for alternative accommodation. Please note that minimum and maximum number of nights can apply. For more information please contact accommodation@canterbury.ac.nz
More information can be found at Private Renting.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your accommodation options at the University of Canterbury, please feel free to contact the Accommodation Office.
