Researcher Summary

Integrated Inquiry through Technology Education - a case study involving a Yr5-6 class from a Christchurch school investigating the use of a Technology Education theme as a starter for integrated inquiry. The study involved immersing the children in the theme which related to the establishment of a regional park near Christchurch. They studied the special charactersitics of the environment and then researched, planned and developed presentations of possible recreational activities and facilities for the area. Presentations included static dispalys, models, power points and oral expalantions.

Using Context-free Learning Intentions to Enhance Learning in Technology Education - conference presentation at TENZ 2007. This workshop developed technology education teachers thinking about the use of context-free learning intentions to better focus on learning in technology. Often the real purpose for teaching is lost as  the context takes over. Separating the actual learning for teacher and students helps to resolve this.

There are few possible opportunities for professional development for teachers in Technology Education. I am interested in the ways individual teachers keep abreast of latest changes and understandings.
