Research Group Summary
The Centre for Bioengineering aims to be an internationally recognised interdisciplinary research centre of excellence, dedicated to servicing the biotech/bioengineering industry in New Zealand and throughout the world. The interdisciplinary nature of bioengineering research requires clear, concise and unambiguous communication across a number of distinct disciplines.
The main goal is to facilitate a link between academic research in fundamental science/engineering and the medical industry. By providing this link the Centre acts as a repository from which novel ideas and health products emerge and result in the creation and development of new medical products. This in turn will help New Zealand's health sector in providing viable and cost-effective service to its people. New Zealand has an advantage over other much larger countries in that its business sector has a large proportion of small/medium sized enterprises. This could make it easier to shift into new areas and develop at a faster rate than other larger companies.
