MOFA Taiwan Scholarship

Description

The Taiwan Scholarship program is a joint initiative launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the National Science Council (NSC) in 2004. At the Republic of China's centennial in 2011, the Taiwan Scholarship programme evolved into the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship programme and the MOE Taiwan Scholarship programme in order to cater to students of varying backgrounds.
The MOFA Taiwan Scholarship is dedicated to encouraging outstanding students from countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan to pursue their bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees in Taiwan.

1. Financial assistance
(1) A monthly stipend of NT$30,000
(2) One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan
(3) Duration:
a. Undergraduate program: four years maximum. Master's program: two years maximum. Doctoral program: three years maximum
b. Pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP): one year maximum
c. Maximum duration for any combination of programs under this scholarship: five years

2. Eligibility
Each applicant shall:
(1) possess a high school diploma or higher; have performed well at his/her most recent academic institution and be of good moral character;
(2) be neither a Taiwanese national, nor an overseas Taiwanese compatriot;
(3) have never enrolled in any educational institution in Taiwan for the same level of degree as the current application;
(4) not be an exchange student through an academic cooperation agreement between an overseas university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan;
(5) have no record for being revoked a MOFA Scholarship program or other government-sponsored scholarship.
Recipients cannot accept any other R.O.C. government-sponsored scholarships or subsidies.
